Another hidden feature of Vita revealed

Share

After the reveal of  the debug mode and the recovery menu you wouldn’t be surprised that has more functions . Today a Japanese site reported another one. It displays some system information.

All you need to do in order to try it out is :

  1. Go to Settings – System – System Information on your Vita, PSP or PS3. ( Yes it works on all three of them. )
  2. Press and hold for about 3-4 sec the following combo : L + R + D-pad Left + Square.
  3. After you release the button combo immediately press Start.
  4. You now see the complete information about your firmware.

It’s kind of useless but it’s quite funny, isn’t it.

Here is a video if you wasn’t able to do it right or just don’t have Vita yet :

the information that shows in the psp is the same as the version.txt

yep-on psp it shows version.txt’s content
Same must apply for Vita except the fact that PSV’s firmware actually doesn’t just displays it but also aranges them in groups

Its interesting that this button combo has been known on the PSP for some time now and that its still functional on the PSV but more interesting is that if I use the combo when on 6.20PRO-B10 pp it restarts the system?!

This “useless” information is what is on the version.txt file on psp. Now this file can be used with custom firmware to trick the psp into thinking it has the firmware on the .txt file, meaning games could be run on older, firmware e.g. 6.20 PRO B10 , can run CARS 2, which originally needed firmware 6.60+.

So if the PSV is hacked and the ability to use the “version.txt” from external memory is possible, then all we need to do is copy the info in the display, then write it to the file, and use it, possably tricking the PSV into thinking it was on higher firmware? Just a thought, but this information is DEFINATLY not useless :L

It’s not that simple- even in PSP there were many more security checks and the version.txt is not  definetly one of the most tough to go around.
Moreover we already have Vita’s version.txt or how it’s called-it was dumped from the ofw
So it is useless but as I said good looking
