The PSP-3000 TIFF Exploit. Proof it works....
True to his word MaTiAz has released Version 2 of his Hello World TIFF Exploit. This version works on PSP Slim units and we have reports from users that it even works on the PSP-3000! That’s a added bonus. As for the “bit of awesomeness” promised we have to wait just a little longer for that.
MaTiAz’s notes:
Just copy the files to the memory stick root, disconnect USB and go to photo menu. Don’t dismiss the exploit even if it doesn’t work on the first time, it’s *very* unstable. You might get it working on the first time, but you might as well have to try it 20 times!
The h.bin is loaded to 0×08800000, and the text address of paf.prx is passed in $a0 to the binary code. You can then trick out function imports, like for example sceDisplayWaitVblankStart: sceDisplayWaitVblankStart = (void*)(paf_addr+0×15F068);
Instructions:
1. Copy either slim.tiff or phat.tiff to /PSP/PHOTO/ folder on the memory stick, depending on
your PSP model. Do NOT copy both!
2. Copy h.bin to the root of the memory stick.
Also its reported to be working on the PSP-3000 (Ta88v3) Try the following: (Thanks to n00b81 for the tip!)
From p2s2p: The interesting thing is, they didn’t think it would work for 3000s but it does! Here is what you have to do…follow the same instructions for the slim, but then throw in about 5 or 8 other pics in your photo folder, and when the thumbnails are loading, you have to scroll up and down, and then the PoC should boot up. You need at least 5.02 on a 3000 to work this.

April 16, 2009 at 9:00 pm
Tries it in my psp 3004, ofw 5.03. tried it a couple of times, with no luck. This is either unstable or just plain doesn’t work yet.
But on the other hand, the brains of homebrew are just prodding at sony, which is something i really like. These chaps are freaking good alright. Just waiting for that bit of awesomeness.
And for everyone who doesn’t know what next. This exploit and the Hello World screen just demonstrates that YOU CAN.
April 16, 2009 at 10:46 pm
Yes, we should wait a little bit longer.

Nice job, I have the Silver 3001 firmware 5.03 . I also have 8 Images in the folder as well. It boots Hello World everytime! 5 times now, however the last 2 times I had to open the cover & drop the battery out for it to shut down. The first 3 times it powered itself off??

April 18, 2009 at 8:07 pm
uh guys? I have the instructions for the PSP 2000 Slim type here: http://pspslimhacks.com/tiff-based-exploit-found-firmware-503-says-hello-world/ so please read them. If this doesn’t work then idk man cause when i did it i got it on my first try.
April 18, 2009 at 9:13 pm
the hello world exploit come out but nothing happen just still on the screen i have to take out the battery to go off i dont know is really work but yeah was booted.
April 19, 2009 at 12:07 am
You would need to change the names of the other jpegs in the folder so that they are starting with something before ’s’. If that doesn’t work, it must be a PSP sort setting?
I got it to work after about 10 tries. First, was when I removed the battery and used just the power supply.
But, the second time was with just the battery. So, I don’t think that makes a difference here.
Precision timing is key. Both times, I pressed down at the exact moment the thumbnail of the jpeg that’s sitting just above slim.tiff loaded.
And I mean EXACT. 10/100ths of a second makes a difference.
Hopefully a little more stability will come with that surprise around the corner.
Great job guys!
April 19, 2009 at 1:12 am
i hit the last thumbnail right before the slim an right after it loaded – only a black screen comes with no words – have no idea what to try next….
April 19, 2009 at 1:55 am
It took a few tries, but sure enough it booted right up. This gives me hope for my late-gen 2000, as well as my wife’s 3000.
Custom firmware here we come.
April 19, 2009 at 7:49 am
@sam
I got the same thing… a black screen with no words. But I figured out how to move the file. Turns out they are ordered according to the time they were last modified.
I got the black screen only once. But when I tried afterwards, it began to freeze again.
I agree with Jimi. It seems to be entirely in the timing.
April 19, 2009 at 7:54 am
dudes!!!
tried it once more. guess what i got. A really weird screen!!! seriously. the animation at the back was green with a black background, freeze frame.
Don’t know what I did, but it sure happened.
April 19, 2009 at 8:11 am
Tried again…. failed.
Tried for 2 days. Until NOW!
Finally did IT!!!!!!!!!
15 freezes, a black screen and 2 queer, green screens later, The crash happens and the words display.
Homebrew here we come.
